I first stepped into Social Mechanics in January of 2015 and had never touched a barbell in my entire life before that. I could barely squat, much less bench or overhead press an empty 35lb bar. I quickly fell in love with the workouts, though, because the community was amazingly supportive and encouraging. With Cristen always smiling and pushing me to do more than I thought I ever could, I fell in love with fitness.
Before my baby was born, I had struggled with bulimia and then binge-eating since I was 14. I had stopped purging when my husband and I first started dating back in 2010, but bingeing was a constant battle. When I found out I was pregnant, I knew the binge-eating had to stop. I really had to stop and take a hard look at myself. I also worked out at SM throughout my entire pregnancy in 2016 and gave birth to a healthy baby boy that December.
After my first couple of months postpartum, I started really taking care of my nutrition because it was even more important for breastfeeding. For the first time in my life, I was eating without guilt and without shame. And the weight seemed to fall off even when I was eating more than ever before. But I honestly had not noticed until someone commented on a photo I had posted of my then 7 month old. As more and more people asked me about what I was doing to have lost the pregnancy weight, I realized that I loved not only talking about nutrition but also helping others with it.
By mid 2018, I was an ACE personal trainer and an NCI Nutrition Coach.
When it comes to food, I don't like to use the phrase "cheat meal" because YOU CAN'T CHEAT ON FOOD, PEOPLE. IT DOESN'T HAVE FEELINGS. But I do love me some AYCE Korean BBQ! My go-tos are Jin BBQ in Plano or Gen BBQ in Carrollton.
I absolutely love working with people to find nutrition solutions for their health that also fit into the context of their life. No two people are alike and so nutrition should NOT be one-size-fits-all! I feel so grateful to be a part of the Social Mechanics family and team.
