The Gym of Social Mechanics is a functional strength and conditioning program on Lower Greenville designed to help you move and feel better in your everyday life. We incorporate foundational lifts, body weight movements, stretching and cardio for a well-rounded training program. Contact us via phone or email to set up a time to check us out, or drop by 15 minutes before a class to register and try it out!

CRISTEN

I really fell into fitness when I decided to lose the 15 pounds I'd gained after I got married. Once I started my journey, I never stopped. It is the best thing I can do for myself and my family, because when you feel better about yourself everyone around you benefits. I used to think, “The skinnier the better,” but now strong is my new skinny. Anyone can be skinny, but to be "fit" puts you into a different category. Lifting my kids into their car seats, carrying heavy grocery bags and enjoying adventurous trips are all made so much easier because I make workouts a priority. That is what it is truly all about for me. I love community fitness because it helps you to get out of bed and get to the gym even on those days you don’t really feel like it.

BRITTNEY

I grew up with an athletic director as a father, so I've been playing sports since I could walk. After organized sports were done, I spent the next couple of years dabbling in all avenues of fitness, becoming a Certified Personal Trainer and minoring in Sports Management at Texas A&M. After I received my Crossfit Level 1 certificate, I started coaching at Social Mechanics and have been with this gym family ever since!

FAVORITE WORKOUT MOVEMENT: I love cleans - power cleans, hang cleans, squat cleans. It's as easy as jumping a barbell off the ground but complex enough to write textbooks about. I love a good challenge, and every time I feel like I've mastered a clean, there's something new to learn.

CONNOR

I grew up playing a handful of sports, but my approach was less smooth and more like a bull in a China shop. I loved being active and fit, but one too many broken ankles took me out of organized sports and into the weight room. I developed a passion for health and fitness, and graduated college with a degree in Exercise Science. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA as well as a L1 Sport Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting. I love to challenge myself, and I strive to live an overall healthy lifestyle. The SM community is so welcoming and encouraging – I couldn’t ask for a better gym family!

FAVORITE LIFT: I love working on snatches. The snatch is such a technical lift that requires great form and a lot of practice. I love the challenge that comes along with working on these lifts.

MELISSA

Growing up, my parents let me try out different sports and activities. Soccer stuck and I continued to play through college, working at the fitness center during off seasons as I earned my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science. I moved to Dallas in September 2007 and have worked in multiple fitness settings ever since. Fitness is where I belong. When I’m not training clients or teaching a class, I’m usually taking one! I’m completely obsessed, and maintain my Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition and Weight Loss Specialist certificates through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

FAVORITE CHEAT MEAL: Beignets!! Or a really good grilled cheese sandwich

with shredded brisket.

 

CLASSES

PURE MECHANICS

This class strengthens and refines movements for our members' everyday activities. Hand weights, barbells and kettle bells are used to improve real-life functional movement patterns such as pushing, pulling, lunging and squatting. Balance and flexibility are all included to create a well-rounded program. These compound movements are made to prepare you for your day ahead and leave you energized to enjoy life to the fullest!

ADVANCED MECHANICS

This class is for members who train with us regularly and are looking for that next level in overall fitness. Heavier weights and higher intensity are used to push members to a limit they have never reached before by challenging their aerobic and anaerobic threshold. Resistance, intervals, gymnastics, endurance and diet play a huge part in this class. Come ready to sweat, breathe hard and have fun doing it!
